Biography of Abraham Mateo
Abraham Mateo Chamorro, better known as Abraham Mateo, is
one of the most important teenage singers and dancers on the Spanish music
scene. He was born in San Fernando (Cádiz) on 25 August 1998. Son of Abraham
Antonio Mateo and Susana Chamorro, he was raised in a family of artists in
which his grandfather, his mother and his older brother Tony have also
dedicated themselves to music. Abraham Mateo combines his musical life with his
studies at a Madrid high school where he studies social sciences.
However, despite his academic background, Abraham Mateo had
a clear vocation from a very young age and at just seven years old he took part
in the Teresa Rabal Foundation's 'Veo veo' festival. At nine he won the
Revelation Award at this festival and took part in the programme 'Menuda
noche'. The success he achieved after his performances led him to record
his first album called 'Abraham Mateo' at the age of ten with the
record label Emi Music Spain. This work led him to appear on such important
programmes as 'El show de María Teresa Campos' and gave him the opportunity to
tour several cities in Spain to promote his music.
The success did not end there and the promising singer opened
a YouTube channel in which he shared versions of different songs in
Spanish, English, and Italian. It was in 2011 when he managed to register his
first song on the iTunes platform, called 'Desde que te fuiste'. Just a year
later he signed a record contract with Sony Music Spain and with this record
company he released his second album in 2013 entitled AM. In this new work he
decided to innovate and try new styles such as Latin pop and electropop and
also fused English and Spanish in his lyrics, something that earned him more
than one criticism. The single 'Señorita' made Abraham Mateo
known in several countries and became a real hit on the sales charts. Its video
clip took the title of the most viewed music video in Spain on YouTube in 2013.
Abraham Mateo was one of the guests at the Premios Juventud
Gala in 2013, where he shared the stage with artists such as Jennifer Lopez,
Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, and Pitbull. 2014 also brought good news for the
young man, who managed to open for the famous 'One Direction' on their tour of
Spain and Latin America. In November of that same year he began his own
journey through the American continent, specifically at the Sala
Omnium in Santiago de Chile and at the legendary Luna Park Stadium in Buenos
Aires.
In 2014 she also recorded her third studio album, 'Who I
AM', which immediately became the fifth best-selling album in Spain,
receiving Platinum certification. 'All the girls' was one of
the most important songs from the new album and its music video was chosen as
the best of 2014 on the video platform VEVO Spain.
This new album helped Abraham Mateo to reap a huge amount of
success and led him to tour cities around the world, culminating in a tour in
2015 that included more than 40 concerts. In March of that same year he
traveled between London and Los Angeles to compose the songs for his fourth
studio album, 'Are you ready', which he would present with the single 'Old
School'.
Abraham Mateo's career is not limited to the world of music.
The teenage star has participated in numerous television series, playing
small roles. Among them, the Antena 3 mini-series '3 days without light', which
dealt with the disappearance and murder of Mari Luz Cortés and where he played
the girl's younger brother. He also played the singer Raphael when he was just
a child in the 2010 series 'Raphael: a story of personal improvement'. He has
made numerous cameos in well-known series such as 'B&B' or in José Mota's
comedy show.
Abraham Mateo has always been an artist very close
to his fans, known as 'abrahamers' with whom he has constantly
communicated through his social networks.
